Well I shit the bed!

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw 5, yes … 5 British riders on the WSBK SuperPole list from Phillip Island!? Holy Shit!

I’m dissapointed to see Shakey so far down the list, and Haga too as I think he’s a brilliant rider.

Good luck to Johnny Rea on the front row! Top show dude – tho he’s from Northern Ireland – so I guess I should be rooting for our home grown monobrow talent of Leon Haslam. Bollocks to favouritism I’d love to see the British boys up there on the podium! Wishing them all the best down under!!

…with a kicker

Okay, so pidgin is still bust, but I don’t need a multi protocol IM client so I’ve started using aMSN again and everything seems sweet. The crashes that have pissed me off have also stopped since I disabled ‘Desktop Effects’ which I believe is compiz. Shame really, as the Fedora UI doesn’t really have any more sheen than a distro of a few years back. The cube and window chooser were a really nice plus, but I prefer stability and the lack of having to install an OS again.

Slippery Slope

It’s started. I’ve had to spend over half an hour searching corners of the internet just to work out how the hell to get my previously okay pidgin installation to fire up and get my MSN contacts online.

I know I know, it’s a hang up that I’ve got all my buddies using the MSN network. But why wouldn’t they? They are all running MS OS’s and have better things to do with their lives than run around forums and dig deep into Shells pumping child speak commands into a black box. They just wanna use their computer and bugger off again.

I can see the Win 7 DVD looking back at me..

Free CD & DVD Recorder software

Happened to find this little gem this morning. I’ve not really had to find anything till now as I’ve been using MagicISO which has suited all my needs, but since their support is non-existant and I can’t find my original install files and code, I’m buggered if I’m paying them again for another copy. So a quick scoot around found InfraRecorder which seems perfect!

To quote Stefano De Benedetti on Big Mountain Skiing

“In the perfect moment, I was so concentrated. There was no space for other thoughts. When you want to make a turn and you are at the top of a steep vertical wall. I mean when you are in the situation that if you fall you die, everything changes. You think very much about turning. You think very much about where to turn, and you do all this in a very special way. You act like a different person, you act with All yourself. You are making a completely different experience and in some way you are discovering yourself.
This is the magic of the mountain. You can accept to die for this, you don’t want to die, but to live so close to the possibility of dying you understand what is really important, and what is not. And this makes you a better person. It’s probably the highest moment of my life, because in the perfect moment I was, or I felt to be, a little superman.”

Amen brother, Amen.

VLC or XMMS

Don’t be silly, why on earth would VLC work fine on your Fedora distro? Err.. Coz that’s what’s on MACs innit? Hmm.. Seems like the previously king multi media player that is VLC doesn’t wanna show me any MP3 loving when using on my Laptop. Pleasantly though, XMMS has a sufficiently pretty interface and a kinda robocopised WinAmp look and works perfectly. I’m over it. It’s just a shame after running through every ‘your audio pops/crackles/skips in Fedora’ thread that VLC just wouldn’t cut it.

[root@me ~#]yum install xmms xmms-mp3 xmms-faad2 xmms-pulse xmms-skins

That command will sort you out a nice XMMS player with full mp3 support in Fedora 10.

Thoughts on building muscle mass

It’s dawned on me recently that there’s a reason that people use the Bulk and Cut method to get muscle mass on board.

I’ve been trying with little success to put on lean and only lean size on for a long time and it really doesn’t work. I’m a hard gainer anyways, meaning my bodytype is Ectomorphic, slim wrists and ankles being a common indictator and eating what I thought was ‘just enough’ to cover putting weight on has never really worked.

Now I’ve recently started what is best described as a bulking routine, although I’m not eating MUCH more than I was I’m burning significantly less during the day as I’m not running 10k every lunchtime which is a good 700kcals kept back. Yeah I’m still doing something, like a 5k or a gym session of sorts for ancillary exercises like core, stretching and all the little ones you tend to miss which work your supprting muscles, but I’m concentrating much more on the compound exercises in the evening and I’m noticing good gains in strength and muscle tone in as little as 2 weeks.

Remembering I AM knocking back Creatine at the moment and I know that can retain water quite a bit, but I’m off that this week and back onto straight Protein supplements and will cycle the Creatine BiMonthly to give my organs a break from the plethora of Chemicals that come in Cyclone.

So here’s for another month or two of the bulk routine and I’ll get on/back on the cut routine come April and see where we’ve got to. 12st with any luck!

Fedora 10 – 1 day on

I’m still running Fedora, I can switch elegantly between the Laptops screen and the docking station monitor, I’m feeling at least mildy hopeful that this may actually stay on here a while! Well done Fedora developers, it’s taken 10 releases but I’m actually not getting annoyed as hell using the distribution yet so we’ll have to see how long this lasts.

For those who don’t know..

Right listen..

If you’re after any videos for racing, get yourself over to Racing-Underground. They have everything you could possibly want for the 2 and 4 wheeled freaks amongst you.

Now Drum and Bass has been easing me through the past few weeks with inspirational beats galore. You can listen live to BassDrive.com or you can hit the archive which is recorded shows from Bassdrive. Not to forget the great Hospital Records podcasts which i’ve been getting off iTunes too!

I’m absolutely BUSTING to go to another AWOL!

Windows 7 to Fedora 10?

I’ve been running Windows 7 on my HP NC2400 laptop for a few weeks now and it’s very nice to use. Problem is it’s not quite stable enough to be running day to day. Video playback casuses blue screens, network access – though very nicely done compared to Vista – is a bit flaky when talking to Linux SMB servers and using ISO mount tools has caused me more than a few headaches.

Oddly enough I’ve deicided to go from one pain in the ass to another. Fedora 9 wasn’t so cool when using my docking station so I’m gonna plonk Fedora 10 on and see what gives. If it’s better, I’ll keep it, if it’s not, I guess I’ll just have to go all the way back down to XP to get a fully useable system.

Don’t really want to after having my senses stretched with Win 7 and I don’t have a license for Vista so I’m a bit stuck really. We’ll see what happens in the next hour or so with the docking station setup.

I must say well done to the Windows 7 team for a very pleasant to use new GUI. It really is a very aestheticly pleasing and much more intuitive setup compared to Vista.
